I was born in Chittur, in the scenic state of Kerala, in 1964. My early years were spent absorbing the diverse cultures of Kerala (1964-72) and West Bengal (1973-92). This exposure, along with my stay in Andhra Pradesh (Visakhapatnam, 1992-96) and Telangana (Hyderabad, since mid-1996), has shaped my values and outlook towards life.

Educational pursuits led me to IIT Kharagpur (Chemical Engineering) and IIM Calcutta (Management). I had the privilege of studying with the finest minds in the country.

In 1995, I began a new phase of my life when I married A R Ananthalakshmi. I then experienced the happiness of parenthood with the birth of our children, Viswanath (1996) and Lakshmy (1998). Both have graduated in Computer Science from IIT Madras and have been outstanding scholars through school and college. Viswanath is currently with Qualcomm and Lakshmy with Microsoft.

Going back and forth between academia and the corporate world sum up my professional journey. I have achieved milestones such as completing the Indian CFA Programme (in 1996), publishing my first book (in 2001), and earning a Ph.D (in 2o05, under the guidance of my amazing mentor, Prof A. Vidyadhar Reddy).

I have contributed in my own small way to organizations like Berger Paints (1985-86), Bry Air (1986-88), Tata Steel (1991-96), ICFAI (1996-2005), Satyam (2006), UBS (2007-09), and Cognizant (2010-21). Each chapter has added a layer of learning to my experience. My long stint in Cognizant was particularly satisfying. I amplified my formal role of middle level leadership development. I established friendship with a wide network of incredible people. I continue to be in touch with many of them.

I returned to the academic sphere in early 2021 when I joined ICFAI. Since January 2023, l am associated with Brane Enterprises, which is pioneering some groundbreaking innovations in the way solutions are developed. My decision to join Brane was shaped by another incredible mentor, Mr Jacob Verghese.

I consider the progress in my career as slow and steady. Nothing much to proclaim. But a sense of relief all the same. In an age of layoffs and job uncertainty, I have found a place in some reputed organization or the other since 1985.

As I turn 60, reflection and introspection have become my companions. The desire for a meaningful legacy has fuelled my ambition. I have set forth a roadmap for the decade ahead. I have committed myself to achieving professional excellence and securing the financial future of my family. I would like to continue to share insights with colleagues, students, and the academic fraternity. I want to simplify things and make it easy for young, eager minds.

Beyond my professional aspirations, I have embarked on a journey of personal transformation. I am trying to be more selfless, spiritual, and compassionate, and standing up for justice and fairness. Frequent checks on my ego have become integral to my evolution as a human being. In the coming years, I hope to lead a life dedicated to making a difference.

I feel grateful towards my family [my parents, in-laws, brother, wife (and her extended family), children and niece], mentors and friends. The joy of sharing knowledge, and the efforts towards becoming a better human being are gradually making me more grounded. The road has not been easy, and the challenges have been many. I feel blessed that with all my limitations I have reached somewhere in life.
